The third floor of the Kringlan shopping mall in Reykjavík has recently undergone a major renovation, which was intended to redesign the entertainment, socializing and shopping experience, thereby strengthening the mall’s role as a landmark for the local community. In order to enhance the spaces, THG Arkitektar, driven and supported by Reitir, a prominent leader in real estate development, and advised by the British company M Worldwide, chose FMG Fabbrica Marmi e Graniti’s full-body porcelain stoneware surfaces, known for their ability to combine aesthetic appeal with outstanding performance.
In the lively Finnsson Bistrot, Venice Villa was used for the flooring, backsplashes and tabletops, which adds a touch of elegance while also being functional, and matches the sophisticated atmosphere of the venue. Architect Paolo Gianfrancesco of THG Arkitektar says: “We decided to use Venice Villa on the floor as well as on the vertical surfaces, especially on the tables, where the customer can get a first-hand feeling of the product. With its polished finish, this material imparts a warm and luxurious look with aesthetic depth, a feature that was very much appreciated by the client, along with technical and practical features that were appreciated by the operators.”
In the Oche® entertainment area, Palladio was chosen for the flooring under the shuffle boards due to its technical characteristics and distinctive design, which seamlessly integrates durability and sophistication.
Terrazzo flooring, a recurring theme in both Venice Villa and Palladio, is a stylish solution that blends traditional and modern design elements. The mélange texture, enhanced with chromatic and textural details, recalls the classic style of Venetian flooring, but with a modern twist that makes it a perfect fit for contemporary spaces. This decorative and iconic material adds a touch of elegance to any space.
From a technical standpoint, FMG’s full-body porcelain stoneware is resistant to wear and tear, impact and chemicals, which makes it ideal for areas that are subject to high foot traffic. Aesthetic and technical continuity is maintained even for special finishes with visible worn edges, ensuring their integrity over time. It is also easy to maintain, making it ideal for the operational needs of complex commercial facilities, providing a solution that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing. Consequently, FMG surfaces are key elements of the project, helping to create a visually attractive, healthy and safe environment.
