SKØYEN TRAIN STATION

Studio
Plus Arkitektur

Between 2023 and 2024, Skøyen Station, a bustling historical railway hub in Oslo, Norway, which has been in operation since 1872, underwent major redevelopment. The redevelopment, which aimed to enhance the travel experience, was commissioned by Bane Nor Property and overseen by the architecture firm Plus Arkitektur. Key issues addressed included wear and tear, as well as the lack of welcoming spaces, with the aim of creating a more inviting and functional environment.

The project involved significant upgrades to the lighting and ventilation systems, as well as the signage and information displays. Particular attention was paid to the staircase leading to platforms 3 and 4, which was widened and made more accessible. The building, which previously appeared to be located deep underground, has now been redesigned to be more spacious and visually appealing.

For the internal surface cladding, the Plus Arkitektur firm chose Venice Villa by FMG, a Full Body3 porcelain stoneware renowned for its outstanding technical performance and exceptional aesthetic value. Its mélange graphic texture, comprising a variety of colored fragments and ceramic bodies, resembles natural stone, thereby creating a visual link between the various construction elements. In addition, its Beige color blends harmoniously with the warm tones of the wood, balancing the cooler tones of the concrete and creating a more pleasant environment.

Venice Villa is a technologically advanced material that is uniform throughout, with no distinction between its surface and thickness, which ensures that its aesthetic appeal and performance

remain consistent and unaltered over time. With its excellent hygienic properties, ease of cleaning, resistance to scratches, abrasions, water and humidity–not to mention its fireproof and non-slip properties–it is the ideal flooring solution for high-traffic areas. Designed to offer maximum creative freedom and aesthetic appeal, it ensures long-lasting performance.
