PALAZZETTO DELLO SPORT GIUSEPPE PANINI - MODENA (ITALY) - Modena - Italy
The Palazzo dello Sport “Giuseppe Panini”, more commonly known as PalaPanini, is the main indoor sporting arena in Modena and one of Italy’s top sporting complexes. Opened in 1985, it currently seats 5,211 spectators in the eight retractable seating areas along the volleyball court and on the upper floor. This facility has always been dedicated to volleyball, but it also hosts other sporting events and live performances.
After being restyled several times over the years, the main entrance recently underwent extensive renovation work that involved the use of Venice Villa, the full-body porcelain stoneware collection by FMG that recreates the well-known terrazzo effect. Venice Villa Grey Naturale, in the 120x120 cm format, was used for the flooring, which features the 10x8 meter figure of a volleyball player spiking the ball. In order to create this figure, Venice Villa White Naturale surfaces measuring 120x120 cm were appropriately shaped and waterjet cut. Full-body technical ceramics are the ideal choice for high-traffic public venues such as the PalaPanini arena, since the even thickness of the surface and inner structure ensures that the aesthetic and technical properties of this material are unaffected by wear and tear, scratches and nicks. A tribute was also paid to the “Temple of Volleyball”: a wall with a large FMG Titanium White panel measuring 300x150 cm in the Naturale finish, fully customized with DYS. Design Your Slabs, the groundbreaking digital technology by Iris Ceramica Group, was used to accurately reproduce on ceramic surfaces the original design concept developed by the company’s graphics department specifically for the PalaPanini arena.
