Studio Azzurro’s interactive video installation In Principio (e poi) (“In the Beginning - and then”) incorporates FMG Fabbrica Marmi e Graniti’s MaxFine porcelain slabs in an artwork in the Vatican Museum, a world-famous icon of culture housing one of the world’s biggest and most important art collections.
To paraphrase the title of Studio Azzurro’s work... “In the Beginning” there were ceramic wall coverings, “and then” there were FMG Fabbrica Marmi e Graniti’s large slabs, much more than simple ceramic surfaces for covering walls, floors and façades.
The latest innovations include SapienStone countertops, the European patent for production of Active anti-bacterial porcelain, or the maxi-slabs combining large size (over 4.5 sqm) with reduced thickness (6 mm.): sizes and aesthetic properties permitting maximum flexibility and versatility satisfying architects’ requirements. In addition to these uses in traditional fields and disciplines for ceramic surfaces, such as architecture and design, the material has now been used to make a work of art. Studio Azzurro, the famous new media artists’ collective, selected four MaxFine slabs from FMG Fabbrica Marmi e Graniti in the Dark Depth colour and the 320x160 cm size to become part of the artwork entitled In Principio (e poi).
In Principio (e poi) (“In the Beginning - and then”) is an interactive video installation made in 2013 for the first Holy See Pavilion at the 55th International Art Exhibition at Biennale di Venezia. On September 28, 2016 Sala Studio Azzurro opened in the Vatican Museum and the work became part of one of the world’s largest and most important art collections.
